John Paul II Visits CUA in 1979
Pope John Paul II addressed Catholic University students on Oct. 7, 1979, on the steps of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. His first words were, “Dear students, I love you.” The students replied by repeating, “John Paul II, we love you!” When the chanting stopped, the Pope then answered, “Perhaps I love you more!”
