Past Papal Visits
Pope Benedict XVI in 2008; Pope John Paul II in 1979
On both occasions in the past when the Pope visited The Catholic University of America, he addressed educational leaders gathered from around the United States.
During his address in 1979, Pope John Paul II called Catholic University a “great institution” and encouraged Catholic educators to foster “a real community which bears witness to a living and operative Christianity.”
During his address in 2008, Pope Benedict XVI greeted his audience as “bearers of wisdom” and spoke of education’s integral place in the Church’s mission to proclaim the Good News.
