“This doesn’t happen anywhere else,” said student Nate Sarmir when he heard the news that Pope Francis will visit The Catholic University of America in September. “We are welcoming our third Pope to campus. No other U.S. university has hosted a Pope more than once.” Students have had unique opportunities to help prepare for the Pope’s visit and to welcome him to campus.
Pope Francis comes to the Catholic University campus to celebrate the Canonization Mass of Blessed Junípero Serra on the East Portico of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception with the congregation assembled on the University Mall.
In response to Pope Francis’s visit to campus, Catholic University’s Office of Campus Ministry initiated a series of events with the theme “Walk with Francis: Joy of the Gospel.” CUA students, alumni, faculty, and staff have walked in solidarity with our Holy Father through prayer, learning, and service. More than 500 members of the CUA community took part in the Serve with Francis Day on Sept. 13.
